MS Computer Science

Program Introduction:

The MS (Computer Science) comprises of both course work as well as research component. There are four ‘core courses’ aimed at strengthening the understanding and competence of students in computer science fundamentals. The University expects its MS graduates to pursue careers either as ‘Computer Science Faculty Members’ or as ‘Software Development Managers’ in the industry.

Program Objectives:

  1. Students will be able to possess advanced knowledge of Computer Science field
  2. Students will be able to think creatively and critically; to solve non-trivial problems
  3. Students will be able to use computing knowledge to develop efficient solutions for real life    problems
  4. Students will be able to design solutions and can conduct research related activities

 

Program Scope:

MY University offers MS  by research and MS by Course Work. Both have variety of subjects and wide scope. If you are good with research and are a self motivator, you should consider doing MS by research and if you want proper taught courses, you can opt for MS by Course Work. Research based MS would be tougher and would require more hard work and dedication. The degree aims to equip graduates with a range of technical and managerial skills needed for the successful implementation and management of Information Technology in today's competitive world of business.MS program is going to be relevant in terms of job creation and artisanal smart business generation.

 

Duration:

The minimum duration of the MS is two years and maximum duration is four years as per HEC policy. 

Admission Requirements/Eligibility:

 

BS (CS) 4 Years Degree Program (min 130 credit hours), or Computer Science Conversion Course with 2 Years Degree Program “MCS” / “MSc (CS).”

BCS-3 years Degree Program-Student will be required to complete the deficiency of difference of total earned credit hours and 130 credit hours.

16 year Science and Engineering graduates are eligible but they have to cover deficiency.

Above mentioned degrees with at least 50% marks or CGPA of at least 2.0 (on a scale of 4.0).

The following core courses are recommended to be completed before entering the MS (CS) program.

  1. Analysis of Algorithms
  2. Assembly Lang. / Computer Architecture
  3. Computer Networks
  4. Computer Programming
  5. Data Structures
  6. Database Systems
  7. Operating Systems
  8. Software Engineering
  9. Theory of Automata

A student selected for admission having deficiency in the above stated courses may be required to study a maximum of FOUR courses, which must be passed in the first two semesters. Deficiency courses shall be determined by the Graduate Studies Committee, before admitting the student.

 

Selection Merit Criteria:

Admission based on any of the following entrance test:

  1. GRE General
  2. NTS (GAT General) / University Entry Test
  3. Interviews by Admission Committee

Marit Formula:

Gat General / MYU Entry Test               40%

CGPA (BS)                                                    40%

Interview                                                      10%

Post BS Professional Experience        10%

 

Award of Masters’ Degree:

On recommendations of the FBS of the University will award Master’s degree to the students who satisfy the following conditions:

  1. Have passed courses totaling at least 30 credit hours, including four core courses.
  2. Have achieved a minimum CGPA of 2.5 in coursework with a minimum of B grade in thesis (6 credit hours).
  3. Have completed prescribed credit hours (30crh) in coursework based programs with a minimum CGPA of 2.5.
