Cape Town, South Africa

Event Description

The Vice Chancellor of MY University, Prof. Dr. Muddassar Farooq, has envisioned -- in collaboration with the Obs & Gyane Department of Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi Medical College -- a novel project to save our mothers and newborns namely "Smart Fetal Surveillance: Saving Our Future". The objective of the project is to design, develop and deploy a portable, reliable and effective fetal heart monitoring system (inside a mothers womb during pregnancy) that has the same diagnostic value as that of an expensive CTG machine. The solution could be used by LHW during their antenatal visits and they can transmit the electronic graphs to consultants in tertiary care Hospitals. The PI of the project -- Dr. Sadia Khan, FRCOG -- and Prof Farooq gave an oral presentation in the most renowned international RCOG Congress that was held in Cape Town, South Africa this year from March 20 to March 22, 2017. The project has also won Best Innovation IT Award and it targets Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-3) approved by UN.
