Programs - MS International Relations

The MSIR program of three years (one year consisting  of two semester for course work and two years for thesis writing)  offers unique opportunity to the students to study advanced subjects of IR relating to Foreign Policy of Great Powers, issues relating to Arms Control and  Disarmament, Conflict and cooperation in South Asia, Traditional and Non-traditional Security Paradigms including Maritime Security and regional connectivity/CPEC.  The study will also include a wide range of theories and approaches to IR, develop skill of in-depth and critical analysis on international politics and familiarize with the latest cutting-edge research in the discipline.

Program Mission Statement

The Mission set for the programme  is to equip the students with the intellectual and professional skills required for dynamic careers in public and private sectors by enhancing their knowledge and research skills  on the issues of international relations such as Foreign Policy of Great Powers, issues relating to Arms Control and  Disarmament, Conflict and cooperation in South Asia, Traditional and Non-traditional Security Paradigms including Maritime Security and Regional Connectivity Issues /CPEC.

Objectives

Main purpose of MS two years in International Relations is to prepare graduates having a deep knowledge of the subject as well as ability to analyze any given situation and draw out conclusions. The syllabus of the subject is designed by keeping in the view that following objectives.

  1. To equip the students with essential tools and techniques of research. It will enable them to analyze any given situation/issue and suggest its possible solutions.
  2. To make the students able to specialize in a large range of subjects: Foreign Policy of Great Powers, issues relating to Arms Control and Disarmament, Conflict and cooperation in South Asia, Traditional and Non-traditional Security Paradigms including Maritime Security and regional connectivity/CPEC.
  3. To equip students with a range of important skills such as  working independently as well as part of a team by constructing coherent, independent and critical arguments.
  4. To  enable students to serve in the  diverse fields in all walks of professional life ranging from civil services to media and from NGOs to think tanks and to  undertake research studies and projects

 The graduates passed under this program should have a sound knowledge of the subject. For this purpose an intensive and extensive program spread over 2 -Years MS in International Relations.

MS IR  Program Admission Requirements

A prospective applicant to an MS IR  program must have:

  1. 16 Years of formal education.
  2. No third division in entire academic career.
  3. Pass any of the following with 50% marks:
    1. GRE / GAT / NTS (General); or
    2. MYU Graduate Admission Test; and
    3. Admission Interview by MYU Graduate Admission Committee
  4. Minimum 50% marks in previous degree MA in case of annual system or 2 /4.0 CGPA in case of semester system in the degree awarding institution for admission in MYU in  MSIR Programme.

Degree Requirements

A minimum of 30 credit hours are required for acquiring MS-IR Degree including 6 credit hours of thesis if it is undertaken.
