Introduction
The primary aim of starting Bachelor of Science in Sociology program at MY University is to educate students in the field of Sociology to meet the current social challenges in Pakistan. The students after completing their BS would be able to apply the acquired skills for understanding the multi-cultural views and aspects of the social world.
The discipline of sociology is primarily relates to social analysis. It helps facilitate students to comprehend and examine human societies and cultures through the prism of sociological perspectives. It also focuses on evolutionary process of societies along with historical transformations. Discipline of Sociology has also paid premium attention to methods of research as contemporary sociology is more empirical and research oriented rather than theoretical.
Vision
The Vision of BS Sociology Programme is to become a leading Centre for streamline the education of Sociology in Pakistan by educating students as per international standard for Social Science-based professions.
Program Objectives
Ø To equip the students with conceptual tools, scientific knowledge and practical skills to gain a deeper understanding of social world in general.
Ø To enhance the ability of the students to interpret the dynamics of varying human behavior and society in a wider context.
Ø To articulate how sociological principles can be used to explain and understand the dynamics of social issues and their consequent possible solutions.
Ø To train the students practically and make them capable of applying sociological approaches to redefine the national goals for a sustainable and progressive Pakistan.
BS Sociology program would offer both basic and advanced courses in Sociology. In conjunction, an assortment of subjects from the domain of social sciences is an integral part of this program to instill in the students an interdisciplinary slant. The program courses are particularly designed to equip students with the foundation to orientate and explore their interest, in Development of Social Thoughts and Cultural Issues as two distinctive subjects, through specialized courses and dissertation writing.
Advanced and innovative teaching methods and strategies are employed to hone the students’ critic-creative capacities, written and verbal skills, analytical and contextual thinking. The department would organise regular seminars and talks pertaining to the central themes of the discipline to foster community-based learning in the students. Thus, the range of knowledge and the communication skills that BS Social Sciences students with majors in Socialogy will procure during the program will prepare them for advanced postgraduate study and research in the discipline, as well as for a wide variety of professions, including careers in education, research, writing, publishing, media, the arts, the Civil Service and management.
Admission Eligibility Criteria
Ø Intermediate e.g. FA/F.Sc. (equivalent to 12 years of education) with at least 45% marks.
Ø Candidates having ‘A’ levels are required to provide equivalence certificate from Inter Board Committee of Chairman (IBCC), Islamabad. (http://www.ibcc.edu.pk/)
Candidates having less than 45% marks will be eligible for admission after the successful completion
